Missions Scriptures

When we think of missions, we think of God’s original plan for ‘all the earth’ to be filled with His glory. You won’t find the word ‘missions’ in the bible. Missions is the response throughout history from the people of God. From the early church, throughout the middle ages, to our present day, God’s people have been ’sent’ from the church into places where Christ is not yet known, or where the light of the gospel has not taken root. God purchased for himself a people from every tribe, tongue and nation, the good news is for all! Where did we get this concept of missions? Why sacrifice the comforts of family and home to enter hostile cultures and endure practical hardships? This desire is not hung upon a few scriptures alone. The entire bible declares, “so that all the peoples of the earth might know,” from the Old to New Testaments, from Moses to Jesus and His disciples.

Some of my favorite from the OT include (try and find the scriptures!)

“All the families of the nations will bow down”
“All nations will be blessed through him”
“I will be exalted among the nations”
“Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth”
“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord will be praised”
“All nations will serve him”
“All the nations are your inheritance”
“The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice”
“Make known among the nations what He has done”
“I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles.”
